MOTOR RACING: Roger Newman from Swindon competed in the British championship at the famous Brands Hatch circuit in Kent.
Newman, who works for BMW, was looking to get some more points after his exploits at Thruxton recently.
With a 15-minute qualifying session it was important for him to post a fast time and get as high as possible for the 14-lap race later in the day.
He put up a time of 53.54 seconds in his Van Diemen RF80 around the 1.22 mile circuit, a speed of 82mph which put him in ninth position on the grid out of 28 cars.
In the race, Newman made a good start and was soon on the pace with the leading cars.
He remained in the top 10, eventually finishing eighth, and now goes to Oulton Park in a few weeks looking to gain more points in this year's championship.
