WESTLECOT men will face Wiltshire men in a special match to celebrate the club’s centenary.
The match, which will take place on Saturday, May 15, at Westlecot (2.30pm), will also double up as the first Middleton Cup trial of the 2010 campaign.
Hosts Westlecot earned the right to the special game as they pulled-off again the double of Wiltshire Tourist Trophy and Four Rink League winners last season in the county competitions finals beating Spencer Melksham and Spencer Moulton respectively.
It was the seventh time in the last eight seasons that they had won the top men’s team competition – Four Rink League.
Their only loss in that period came in 2005 when they were beaten by eight shots in the final play-off by Swindon Bowling Club.
Westlecot’s success obviously has been earned in the Four Rink competition where their strenghth in depth at club has been great.
However, in this special match against the county their resources will be stretched to the limits as the game will be over six and not four rinks.
And the county team named contains Kevin Embling and Michael Richards, who were members of Westlecot last year, but have switched to Wootton Bassett for the 2010 season.
Embling was a member of the Four Rink final winning team against Spencer Moulton while Richards played in many of the league games during 2009.
The county team is only drawn from six clubs. Wootton Bassett supply 11 of the players, Spencer Moulton five, Holt four and Chippenham Town two while there are single representations from both Alderbury and Highworth.
