KEELEIGH Chapman was one of Swindon Harriers’ star performers at the Wiltshire County Athletics Championships, held at the County Ground on Sunday.
The teenager took a tenth of a second off the championship record in the under 15s 75m hurdles as she won it in 11.9 seconds.
Chapman came very close to performing the same feat in the 100m, as she equalled the championship record of 13 seconds to take top spot.
Elsewhere, Rhiannon Teuton finished second and third in the under 13s 100m and 200m, while Megan Fiddler was third in the under 17s 100m and third in the high jump with 1.35m.
Will Baker romped to victory in the under 17s 100m in 12 seconds flat, while Tim Ogu completed the under 17s 400m uncontested in 56.2 and Dan Pidgeon came second in the senior men’s equivalent.
There was a big Harriers presence in the 800m contests, with Jed Stacey leading the way after coming first in his under 13s race.
Oliver Cooke was second in the under 15s boys, and in the under 17s Alex Bampton and Thomas Campbell were second and third respectively.
Chris Reade came first in the senior men’s class in 2:02.50.
Isabel Hartley Smith, who also ended second in the under 13s high jump, picked up a bronze in the 800m, while Bethany George did the same in the under 15s 800m.
Lillie Bellamy and Carla Huynh made up the top two in the under 15s 1500m, while Charlotte George and Laura Rothwell were both second in the under 13s and under 17s races respectively.
In the senior men’s contest Brian Gardner finished third in a time of 4:37.80. Thomas Campbell came second in the under 17s in 4:41.30.
A big impression was made by under 15 Joe Grant in the 3000m as he smashed the existing record by over 48 seconds, to complete the race in 10:15.00.
Nyle Clinton snatched bronze in the under 17s while there were second and third places for Andy Fulford and Paul Key in the senior men.
There was a Harriers one-two in the senior women’s 100m hurdles, with Catrin Garland winning it in 17.6 seconds, closely followed by Beth Bermingham in 19.2.
Under 13 Jordan Large competed in shot put, discus and javelin and came first, second and third respectively.
Zoe Large and Bethany Large filled the top spots in the under 17s discus and shot put, while Zoe Large won the hammer and Bethany Large was runner-up in the javelin.
Hammer winner Andy Brown threw 28.12m to triumph in the senior men’s discus and Tim Wescott was second, while Naomi Saxby won gold in the senior women’s discus with 18.30m.
Allan Barnard came second in both the junior men’s discus and shot put, and third in the senior men’s javelin.
Tim Wescott won the senior men’s shot put, while under 15s hammer winner was Michael Woolford with 24.20m.
Completing the throwing event winners was Vickey Bass in the senior women’s hammer with Naomi Saxby in second.
Senior woman Becky White cleared the championship record by over two metres as she jumped 12.35 in the triple jump. Vickey Bass came third with 7.77m.
In the under 17s Alex Bampton was second and in the senior men’s category Kenton Mielnik was second with 11.56m. Mielnik also came third in the long jump.
Will Baker and Matthew Tanner were second and third in the under 17s long jump, while Becky White triumphed in the senior women’s long jump with a jump of 5.55m.
