WESTLECOT men found life very tough as they faced Wiltshire in a special match to celebrate the club’s centenary.
The game, which also doubled up as the first Middleton Cup trial of the 2010 campaign, saw the county side run-out 136-89 victors.
Hosts Westlecot earned the right to play Wiltshire after winning the Wiltshire Tourist Trophy and Four Rink title last season.
Westlecot’s success was earned in the Four Rink competition where their club strength in depth has been outstanding.
However, in this special game against the county their resources were stretched to the limit as it was over six and not four rinks.
“It was an honour to play the county on our own green as Wilts Four Rink League winners and also to celebrate our centenary,” said Westlecot team manager Mike Shawyer. “I knew it was going to be tough fielding six rinks and a few players short but I think we gave them a very good game.
“The score did not do us justice. I thought we might win on a couple of rinks so was a little disappointed. The game was intense and I believe a far more worthwhile Middleton Cup trial than some of the inter-county trial games that are played.”
