WILTSHIRE junior men fell at the first hurdle in the White Rose Trophy, Men’s National County Under 25s Two Fours competition.
In a close contest at Wootton Bassett on Sunday they were beaten 42-40 by Warwickshire in the first round of the west section.
The scores across the board overall on the two rinks ebbed and flowed with Wiltshire 12-5 down at five ends but 23-18 up at 10.
They trailed 29-32 at 15 ends and 30-39 at 18 but collected a pair of fours on the 19th end to cut the deficit to only 38-39.
But they were eventually beaten by two shots on the last end.
Michael Richards’ rink were involved in a rollercoaster match.
They were 8-3 down at five ends but led 14-8 at nine. However, they then dropped a three and a six on the 10th and 11th ends and were 16-22 down at 18. However, they fought back on the last three ends to grab six shots and snatch a draw.
The other match skipped by Wayne Snook was tight throughout.
Snook’s rink was 4-2 down at five ends but 9-7 up at 10 and led 14-12 at 15. They slipped to 17-14 down at 18 but went 18-17 up on the next with a four before dropping three shots on the last two ends to lose 20-18.
