WEST Ilsley trainer Mick Channon travels to Ireland in his quest to win a major European Classic when he saddles Music Show in the Irish 1,000 Guineas at the Curragh tomorrow.

The trainer confirmed that Music Show was in peak condition and had come on a lot for her run in the Stan James 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket were she finished sixth on the unfavoured side of the track.

Channon said: “She’s fit and well and we feel she stands a great chance although I wouldn’t want the ground too soft for her.

“We didn’t have much luck at Newmarket so we just want a fair level playing ground, that’s all I ask for, we just need a bit of luck.”

There are several top class fillies in the line-up with Ballydoyle maestro Aidan O’Brien likely to have four runners including Lilly Langtry, Famous and Remember When. There were two horses supplemented to the tune of €32,500 for the race, the Godolphin-trained Anna Salai and the Tommy Stack-trained Lolly For Dolly.

The column’s selection is for Music Show to give Mick Channon a welcome change of luck in the Classics.

Nearer home Bath stages a seven-race card getting underway at 2.05pm with a two-year-old Maiden Fillies’ Stakes that could go to Never Can Stop.

Later in the afternoon, trainer Matt Salaman could please his followers in the area by getting in the frame with Touch Of Style, the mount of 5lb claimer Ross Atkinson.

Orange Pip, trained by Peter Makin and ridden by Seb Sanders, can send punters home happy by winning the last race on the card.

Jump meetings are scheduled for Fakenham and Perth.

There are stacks of meetings all round the country this afternoon culminating with an evening meeting at Newbury.

The column pinpointed several winners last weekend, let’s hope the luck continues.

Feature race of the day is likely to be at Haydock where the Group 2 Betfred.com Temple Stakes will see a field of top rate sprinters go to post for the valuable event headed by the recent Palace House Stakes winner Equiano, trained by Barry Hills and ridden by son Michael.

Also in the line up is specialist sprinter Borderlescott, who was beaten just under a length by Equiano in the Newmarket feature.

Trained by Robin Bastiman, the eight-year-old is reported to have come out of the Newmarket race well and has improved for the run.

The Sir Michael Stoute-trained Kingsgate Native, last year’s winner Look Busy, Blue Jack from the in-form Tom Dascombe yard and Jimmy Fortunes mount Total Gallery are a few of the other fancied runners but this column’s selection is for Equiano to post his third successive victory.

The Listed Cecil Frail Stakes later in the afternoon could go to the Michael Jarvis-trained Beyond Desire while trainer Peter Makin has booked champion jockey Ryan Moore for Peponi in the Betfred Kingspin Handicap and could be worth a bet.

York stages a seven-race card where the Marcus Tregoning-trained Aajel could be worth an interest while at Goodwood the toteswinger Handicap could be won by Classic Vintage, the mount of Jim Crowley.

Chester completes the afternoon’s flat action with evening meetings at Newbury and Lingfield.

Newbury’s meeting gets underway at 6.05pm with an Amateur Riders Handicap that could be won by Bajan Pride, while later in the evening local trainer Richard Hannon could strike with Looksmart, Compton Blue and Tarita.

Racegoers in the area will no doubt make the short trip down the M4 to Bath on Sunday where the Lansdown course hosts a seven race card getting underway at 2.05pm.
