LOCAL players dominate the teamsheet for the final Wiltshire men’s Middleton Cup trial against Hampshire to be played this coming Sunday, May 30 at Wootton Bassett (2pm).
Fifteen of the 24 players named are from the Swindon area.
Ten Wootton Bassett players, together with four from Westlecot and one from Highworth, have been selected.
But there are some surprise omissions from the final trial such as England and Commonwealth Games squad member Graham Shadwell (Spencer Moulton) and Westlecot’s Mike Jackson.
Wiltshire are again drawn in the West Group (Group Four) of the Middleton Cup and will play in Section B.

THE county men’s fine opening to the 2010 campaign continued with a second successive win in friendly matches.
Wiltshire president Roger Green led his representative side to a 30-shot win over Leicestershire CBA as they ran-out 128-98 victors in the six-rink match.
RESULTS Rink 1: Bob Green, Peter Tucker, Jack Haydon and Terry Brown (all Stratton Churchway) beat Bob Beardsmore 22-11.
Rink 2: Peter Sprott, Brian Hollands (both Pewsey Vale), Don French (Trowbridge T) and Barry Guyer (Salisbury Victoria) beat Bill Brown 23-19.
Rink 3: Bill Knight (Spencer Moulton), Chris Swift (Blue Circle), Roger Green and Tim Wilkins (both SM) beat Geoff Moulds 26-11.
Rink 4: Colin Sheppard (Amesbury), Brian Jarrett (P Vale), Sid Jay (Spencer Melksham) and Norman Gould (Salisbury Victoria) drew with Derek Gerrard 16-16.
Rink 5: Barry and Ross Wheeler (both Swindon BC), Mike Hallam (Downton) and Steve Gedge (S Melksham) beat Terry Whiteside 26-15.
Rink 6: Eddie Lowton (S Melksham), Richard Badger (Ramsbury & Aldbourne), Bernie Davies (S Melksham) and Adie Lloyd (North Wilts) lost to Bill Smith 15-26.
Score: Wiltshire beat Leicestershire 128-98.
WILTSHIRE Women made a poor start to their 2010 campaign, losing both of their opening away fixtures.
They lost heavily to Cornwall in the South West Counties League match at Topsham, going down 138-90.
Then the following day they were beaten 109-93 at Brynhyfrid by West Glamorgan CWBA in their first friendly game under the leadership of new president, June Coyle (North Wilts, Chippenham).
On the neutral green at Topsham (Exeter), Wiltshire ladies only took the honours on one of the six rinks against Cornwall and only collected two South West Counties League points out of 22.

Friendly v West Glamorgan Rink 1: Brenda Cars (Purton), Doreen Croucher (Wootton Bassett), Sue Gravell (Town Gardens) and Brenda Bowen (Corsham) drew 18-18.
Rink 2: June Coyle (N Wilts), Georgina Coomber (Avon), Gillian Lillicrap (BoA) and Fizz Mace (N Wilts) won 17-10.
Rink 3: Sylvia Lucas (Box), Rosemary Fitzpatrick (Corsham), Irene Jones (Devizes) and Pat Stephenson (Purton) won 20-13.
Rink 4: Janice Bull, Mary Buckle (both Amesbury), Viv Baskerville and Barbara Shepheard (both Chippenham T) lost 17-18.
Rink 5: Doreen Gullis (Corsham), Beryl Mayell (Trow West), Janet Daniell (W Bassett) and Evelyn Tape (Avon) lost 12-20.
Rink 6: Ann Roberts-Phare (Malmesbury), Yvonne Savin (Chip T), Joyce Lewis (Wroughton) and Jean Collier (Box) lost 9-30.
Score: Wiltshire lost to West Glamorgan 93-109.
EARLY rounds in the Women’s National Triples competition were due to be completed at the start of this week.
The last 16 in both the North and Southern sections are scheduled to be played on Friday with the quarter and semi-finals to be fought out on Saturday at Amesbury.
The two winning semi-finalists are guaranteed a place at the national championships at Leamington Spa in July.
