JAZZ Carlin is determined to live up to her Pitbull nickname and snap back at her doubters at the Olympic swimming trials.

Carlin, a bronze medallist at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, was left distraught after placing fourth in the 400m freestyle final at the British Swimming Championships, with just the top two booking their slots at London 2012.

She returned to the pool yesterday to secure her place in the 200m final - where she hopes a good swim will earn a relay place and a chance to upgrade her 4x200m bronze at the 2009 World Championships this summer.

But the 20-year old she insists her focus is firmly trained on the 800m freestyle later this week - where Beijing hero Rebecca Adlington will start favourite with the second Olympic slot wide open.

"After being so disappointed it's just good to get back in the water," she said, after qualifying to the 200m final with ease, clocking 1:59.71 to touch home as sixth fastest.

"My training has been geared towards the 400m and 800m and that is why I was upset not to do better.

“But there is such strength in depth and when it's that competitive, there is always a chance you might miss out."

Carlin claimed she will sit down with coach Bud McAllister after these championships to discuss whether her preparations for this crunch event could have been better.

"You always want to be the best and it's frustrating to know that my best would have booked me a place at the Olympics and I just couldn't recreate it," she added.

"However, you've got to look forward and while it's disappointing you have to accept that the best girls have got there on merit and good luck to them."

Meanwhile, Hannah Miley eased into the 200m medley final 48 hours after winning gold and securing an Olympic place in her signature 400m event.

Miley's father and coach Patrick clearly believes rest is for the wicked and his daughter has a demanding schedule of races this week.

But the medleys are the priority and her qualifying time to tonight's final, 2:12.63, while well outside her 2:09.46 national record, put her well ahead of her likely rivals.

Miley is unbeaten over medleys at the British Championship since 2006 and should be odds on to secure a 14th national title.

"After qualifying for the 400m it has been nice to be able to be a little bit more relaxed for the other events," she said.

"It's such a tense week, especially because it's the Olympics and they are also here in London, and it will be good to get these trials out of the way and then really go back to concentrating on my training."

Meanwhile, Corsham’s Stephanie Millward claimed bronze in the Women’s MC 50m freestyle final.

Kellogg’s has been supporting British Swimming for more than 15 years on a ‘grassroots to gold medals’ programme of swimming.
