SWINDON St George rugby league team return to pre-season today in a bid to overcome the disappointment of last season.
The Greenbridge Road club lost out in the West of England Grand Final to Gloucestershire Warriors in 2011, and will be looking to go one better in 2012.
The club will lock horns once again with their old rivals Warriors in the RLC West of England Division, and will also take onNorth Somerset Vikings, Bristol Sonics, Oxford Cavaliers and Wiltshire Wyverns.
Training begins at 7pm at Greenbridge Road tonight, and will continue every Wednesday throughout the season.
Head coach Al Scarbrough will be looking to work on the skills of the players who are coming back raring to go ahead of the new season which starts on Saturday May 5.
The club is also keen to help introduce rugby league to any players new to the game, or are currently playing rugby union.
St George’s player of the year Mike Thompson was the division’s top try scorer with 17 tries in 2011, is looking forward to the summer season after finishing his Rugby Union campaign with Swindon.
“Representing Swindon in both codes of rugby is great,” he said.
“Rugby league really helps develop the core rugby skills and has helped aspects of my union game.
“I’m looking forward to getting the season started and getting stuck into league again.”
