THERE were mixed fortunes for Swindon duo Stephen Sword and James Dunn as the second round of the British Masters motocross came to Foxhill at the weekend.

After qualifying second-fastest in the pro class, Sword suffered a puncture in the first lap of race one, which lost him vital seconds as the tyre was changed.

With Sword effectively out of the race, the Swindon flag was flown by Dunn, who hung onto a superb second place aboard his HM Plant KTM behind the imperious Kristian Whatley.

Desperate to make amends,Sword was quick out of the trap in race two and led for the opening two laps before Whatley took control.

Bradshaw then overhauled Sword on lap seven, while Dunn again impressed as he moved from ninth to fourth and was even reeling in his fellow Swindonian late on.

It was a busy weekend for Dunn, who also was runner-up in two of the four races in the two-stroke MX1 class.

Another Swindon rider, Kristofer Ayres, also took part in the two-stroke category, finishing 13th overall. In total nearly 300 riders contested the event, which carries the largest overall prize fund in European motocross.

The next major event at Foxhill will be the first round of the AMCA British Motocross Championship on May 6-7.
