THE second round of the British Dirt Track Championships will take place at the Idover Lane circuit near Wootton Bassett today.
The championship will run over six rounds in 2012 and incorporates dirt track solo, moto x, quad and mini bike classes.
It will also incorporate the 21st staging of the QUADZILLA QRA British Quad Oval Championships, as the UK’s top racers all gun for the coveted title.
At Coventry’s Brandon speedway stadium in round one it was Kidderminster-based Lee Hazelwood who took glory, but today on a different surface and against a tough line-up, he should not have it all his own way.
Reigning champion Carl Bunce and flying Welshman Ben Richmond will be racing hard while teenage sensation and dirt track cross expert Luke Cooper should also be amongst the front runners.
On the local front, Andy Hobbs will be looking to get in amongst the points and new name to the series, Cirencester-based Harry Timbrell, will hope to make an impression first time out.
In the Welsh Pitbikes British Dirt Track Mini Bike Championships, the series is led by former British Grasstrack Champion Adam Shipp,but reigning champion Mark Richardson from Boston will be hot on his heels.
A local rider hoping to make an impression will be Swindon’s national mini bike champion Blaine Blackwell, who missed round one and will hope to make up for lost time.
In the M & S Truck Rentals British Dirt Track Championships, series leader Lee Smart from Swindon will sit out the action due to injury, while Wiltshire-based Rob Vincent will aim to challenge for the win.
Practice starts at 10.30am with the first race beginning at 11.30am, with a whole afternoon of full-throttle action set to be served up.
Prices are £10 for adults, £7 for concessions, £3 for children of 12-16 and 11 and unders get in free.
