LOUISE Hunt’s hopes of competing at the London Paralympics have been given a welcome boost after the wheelchair tennis star was selected to take in the World Team Cup.
Three players - Hunt, Jordanne Whiley and Lucy Shuker - will compete for Team GB in Seoul, Republic of Korea from May 21-27.
The 20-year-old British number three has a long history of representing Great Britain in the annual Davis-Cup style competition, having played for both the junior and senior women in recent years.
In 2009 she was a member of the GB side that reached the final of the women’s event for the first time in the competition’s 25-year history, when GB played on home soil in Nottingham.
Hunt has since partnered fellow Brit Jordanne Whiley as GB reached the women’s semi-finals in each of the last two years, winning a bronze medal in 2011 in South Africa.
“I’ve had some of my proudest moments as a tennis player while representing Great Britain in the World Team Cup, especially in 2009 when we reached the final for the first time,” said Hunt.
“We’ve done well to reach the semi-finals in the last two seasons and winning the bronze medal last year when me and Jordanne played all the singles and doubles matches was another memorable occasion.
“With all three top ranked Brits in this year’s squad we can hopefully mount a strong challenge once again.”
Hunt will be in action in South Africa this weekend as she aims to further her case for selection with the Paralympics drawing ever nearer.
