THE West Region PGA have published their calendar of events for 2008, writes Ernie Newell.
The seven-month tour embraces some 60 tournaments, including nine in Wiltshire, the main one being the 36-hole order of merit Hamptworth PGA Championship on September 10.
It will be preceded by the Hamptworth Pro-Am on September 9.
There will also be pro-ams at North Wilts on June 4, Bowood on July 21, Marlborough on July 24, Salisbury and South Wilts on August 1, West Wilts on August 29, Cumberwell Park on September 18 and Rushmore on September 26.
The Cirencester Pro-Am takes place on August 15.
The season gets underway on April 3 with a Titleist/Footjoy League tournament at Exeter and finishes on November 7 with The Players Club Pro-Am.
David Hutton, the 32-year-old four-times Hills Wiltshire professional champion from High Post, was the county's leading money-spinner on the west's tour for the fifth consecutive year in 2007.
He won three tournaments, including the Bowood Pro-Am, and banked £9,753 for fifth place, £3,748 behind table-topper George Ryall (The Players Club).
Iain Ferrie, the former West Region champion from West Wilts, was next best Wiltshire player with £5,469 for 13th place.
Andy Beal, the region's skipper and twice Hills champion from Hamptworth, was the only other Wiltshire player among the top 50, the ex-Euro-tour man finishing 23rd with £2,735. Cirencester's Edward Goodwin was 25th with £2,526.
Trevor Bradley won Ogbourne Downs' February midweek stableford with 43 points, one more than juniors Blew Simons and Sam Brown.
The three-strong team of Paul Harding, Tim Smith and Jenny Keeble won the Valentine's stableford at Carswell with a best-ball score of 48 points.
Club captain Steve Hackett, David Doodson and Marianna Senior and vice-captain Alan Biggins, Bob Lightfoot and Helen Mowforth came next with 47.
At North Wilts, June Poffley won the silver division of the women's February stableford with 33 points, two better than Phillipa Stevens and Vicki Leigh.
