TWO late birdies saw Broome Manor pro David Howell finish his second round with a flourish at the BMW Championships at Wentworth today.
Howell picked up shots on the 17th and 18th holes to ensure he squeezed above the cut line by a single shot, just pipping the likes of Miguel Angel Jimenez and Martin Kaymer.
And following his second day’s work, the Virginia Waters resident revealed that he was more than content with his efforts on his ‘home’ course.
“It was a pretty tidy round,” Howell told the Advertiser.
“I played well on the front nine but played pretty badly on the last five or six to the point that I was five-over for the day.
“But I’m pleased I fought back with a couple of late birdies and things were getting better.
“My coach and I sat down and analysed my first round and it looked like I was off balance and losing my head a little.
“So we made some changes and that seemed to work on the front nine and I felt a whole lot better.”
He added: “I’m not in great form at the moment but I was reasonably happy with how I performed.
“It’s a tough course, everyone is making bogeys and there are not many birdie holes around.”
