CAPTAIN Wayne Fiddes is gearing up for the "most important" weekend of Wildcats' season as the Swindon side look to cement their place in the EPL play-offs.
Cats host rivals Chelmsford Chieftains at the Link Centre tomorrow night before a trip to bottom club Wightlink Raiders on Sunday, and Fiddes knows a maximum four-point haul would go a long way towards sealing a top-eight berth.
In-form Swindon sit seventh in the table with just three weeks of the regular season remaining, but Fiddes knows a coveted play-off place is far from secure.
He said: "It could be make-or-break for us this weekend.
"Our form over the last few weeks has been very good, but Chelmsford and Romford have also been picking up points, so we have not pulled away from them.
"If we have another four points come Sunday night I think we will be almost there. "That's what makes this our most important weekend. It really is do or die."
Last Saturday's 6-3 triumph over Milton Keynes Lightning was soured by a disappointing 5-1 reverse in Sheffield, leaving Cats perched perilously close to the bottom three.
But Fiddes insists the Swindon roster is still brimming with belief, and the skipper is relishing the prospect of another crucial double-header.
"The win against Milton Keynes has really given us a lot of confidence," he said.
"We took the game to them in the first period and they didn't really have an answer.
"That's the way we must approach the game against Chelmsford.
"Sometimes, in a must-win game like this, both teams back off and wait for the other to make a mistake. We should try to seize the initiative and really go for it."
With former Wildcat Gareth Endicott waiting across the water on Sunday, Fiddes knows Cats' trip to the Isle of Wight will be anything but plane sailing.
Wightlink may be bottom of the EPL pile with just six wins all season, but Fiddes insists the Raiders will be out to cause another upset on home ice.
He said: "We go to the island twice in two weeks and it will not be easy.
"Gareth is one of my best friends and I know he thinks they can beat us.
"It won't be about skill on Sunday, it will be about who has the most heart and the will to win. Hopefully that will be us.
"If we do get to the play-offs I really think we could do something this year and cause a few upsets ourselves.
"I don't want to build up people's hopes and then under-perform, but I have a lot of confidence in this team."
