PANTHERS, Swindon's recreational ice hockey team, open their home season at the Link Centre tomorrow when they face Streatham Chiefs, their main championship rivals.
Last year Chiefs narrowly pipped Panthers to the league title on goal difference and the 2006 season is shaping up to be just as close.
"We have assembled a squad during the winter months that I think are more than capable of challenging for all three major trophies that are up for grabs" said Panthers head coach Simon Anderson.
"We had a disappointing season last year and certainly underachieved, but we have signed quality and experienced players such as ex-Wildcats Ian Clark, Mike Smith and veteran Scott Gough.
"These guys will be expected to help the team achieve its goals of winning some if not all silverware this year."
In addition, an exciting young talent has broken into the team, 19-year-old defenceman Nick Gallagher, who has already stolen the accolades in the pre-season games.
"Hopefully I can improve this season and use the wealth of experience in the dressing room to better my game," said Gallagher.
Face-off is at 5.45pm. Admission prices are only £2 for adults while children are free.
