WILDCATS have been hit by the news that starlet Aaron Nell has signed for Elite League outfit Coventry Blaze.
The 20-year-old centre was one of Swindon’s top performers last season and made occasional appearances for the West Midlands side in the last campaign.
He played for both sides under a two-way contract but will now step up for his first season as a full professional in the Elite League, joining former Swindon senior Russ Cowley under Coventry and Great Britain chief Paul Thompson.
Wildcats head coach Ryan Aldridge admitted the loss of the youngster, who picked up Best British Player and Coach's Player of the Year at the end of season awards in 2009/10, would be difficult to contend with.
“It is going to be tough for us to find a replacement for Aaron as I believe he was the best British player in our league last year,” said Aldridge.
“As a club, though, we will do our best and of course wish him every success with the Blaze. “He is at the point in he career where he needs to make the step up to full professional and he could not have chosen a better organisation or coach to take him there.
“I would like to thank Aaron for his commitment to the club both on and off the ice. He has been a true professional and been up front about the move from the beginning.”
