SWINDON Wildcats head coach Ryan Aldridge believes victory against Manchester Phoenix this weekend will turn a good season into a special one.

The two sides go head to head over two legs to decide who makes it to finals weekend in Coventry later this month, and Aldridge believes they already have a lot to be proud of.

“There is no doubt the league is getting stronger every year, and we have improved on our points total from last season which proves we have had a good year,” he said.

“But we don’t want to stop there, we have been targetting the play-offs as somewhere we want to be, and getting to Coventry will be great for the club and the fans.

“We have only been there once before, but I firmly believe we will do it again, and we need to make sure we perform this weekend the way we have performed over the last two weeks.”

Wildcats go into the two games on the back of seven wins from their last 10 games, and are one of the form teams in the league thanks to the superb scoring power of Jonas Hoog and Aaron Nell.

The pair have fired a total of 88 goals between them, close to half of the team’s goals this season, and Aldridge is hoping they can keep up their hot streak against the Phoenix.

“Aaron and Jonas have been superb for us, and they seem to have built up a really good understanding.

“They are both great players in their own right, but together they seem even better, as they both score goals and they both assist.

“They are both great people to have around and are good in the locker room, and we hope they can carry their good form on this weekend.

“But some teams might think we are all about those two, but that is not the case. The other lines need to perform too, and if they do, I know we can win.”
