SEAN Millwaters has called on his Supermarine side to make a fast start to 2014 as they enter what the head coach is calling a “potentially massive” second half of the season.
Marine face Devizes 2nds in Dorset & Wilts 1 North knowing they must keep winning to climb a top five that is separated by just five points.
Millwaters’ outfit were beaten 7-6 by tomorrow’s opponents earlier in the campaign and he’s keen on exercising a bit of revenge this weekend.
“We owe Devizes. They beat us earlier in the season in a close game,” he said. “We’ve got a massive game next week - Minety at Minety - so we really need this game to go ahead and we really need to hit the ground running against Devizes.
“It’s a second team so you don’t know what you’re going to get. I’d like to think after the Christmas break that there are a number of players who are thinking ‘I’ll just play in a couple of weeks’.
“We need to start how we mean to go on. Potentially we’ve got a massive second half to the season.
“We’ve got Devizes then Minety then we’ve got the final of this senior cup we’re now in and if we win that Twickenham is something silly like two or three games away.
“There’s so much potential to the second half of the season but we have to keep focused about this weekend.”
“I’ve been saying all season that it’s all about taking each game as it comes and not looking too far ahead and that’s what we’ve got to keep on doing.
“The pitches are very wet up there but if we have a couple of days without any more rain then we should be fine to play on Saturday.”
