WOOTTON Bassett put in one of their best performances of the season as they won 29-12 at North Dorset to continue their promotion push from Southern Counties South.

After a stubborn opening which saw both defences functioning well, the deadlock was broken in style.

Bassett turned the ball over in the home side's 22 and exceptional quick hands put winger Jon Paul Travis over in the corner.

North Dorset levelled with an unconverted try of their own and then took the lead in an action-packed final 10 minutes of the first half.

Bassett came out after the break and immediately got back on level terms as winger Duncan Fletcher broke the line and put Travis away for his second.

No 8 Alex Penny then showed phenomenal strength to score from a pick and drive, a try which was converted.

North Dorset reduced the deficit with a penalty moments later, but Neil Smith picked up from the base of a scrum and wriggled his way over.

Again the conversion was slotted to increase the lead to 24-13 and Bassett put the icing on the cake as Smith again broke the line and executed a smart crossfield kick into the arms of the waiting Mark Trowbridge, who touched down.

In Berks, Bucks & Oxon Premier, Swindon College Old Boys were given a home walkover after Wheatley failed to raise to team.
