RUGBY league is set to return to the town with the formation of the new Swindon St George Amateur club.
The new outfit is set to make their first competitive appearance in May and will be based at Supermarine RFC.
Swindon had a rugby league team, the Bulldogs, during the 1990s and the new club already has finance in place, courtesy of solicitors Francis George, although additional sponsorship is also being sought.
Swindon St George should be formally launched next month, with pre-season friendlies likely to be arranged before they start their West Midlands Conference league season in Coventry on Saturday, May 10.
The three-month campaign will see Swindon play 14 matches home and away with Telford on May 17 pencilled in as their first home match.
Should they be successful enough they will progress to the national play-off quarter-finals, on August 16, the semi-finals the following weekend and the Conference Grand Final on Sunday, September 7.
