EASTBOURNE skipper Cameron Woodward is hopeful his Eagles can secure a long-awaited away victory when they travel to Swindon this evening.
After beating the Robins 53-40 on their own patch on Monday, the Arlington side come to Blunsdon without a victory on the road since a success at Coventry in June 2012.
However, with every point vital as the Eagles bid to hang onto the fourth play-off place, Woodward is hopeful that trend can be bucked in Wiltshire.
“The only lucky thing for us is that (Peter) Kildemand is probably not there again, but the rest of their boys are still fast as hell around that track,” he said.
“We’re up for it and looking forward to it because we all know how critical meetings like this can be, and that away win has to come soon.
“It’s been so long, but we have some big opportunities coming up with Swindon away and then Coventry and they are absolutely critical. We have King’s Lynn and then Poole away to come which are two that are very hard, but the next two are big ones for us.
“Even just a point would be great, and Joonas (Kylmakorpi) and Bjarne (Pedersen) go good round there so hopefully they can lead from the front and we can get the job done.”
Despite Woodward’s Eagles taking victory over the Robins on Monday night, the Aussie admitted things are increasingly difficult for the Arlington club after Lewis Blackbird’s season-ending leg break suffered in Denmark last week.
“We were fearful of Swindon really because they had Simon (Gustafsson) Troy (Batchelor) and Nick (Morris) who go good around our place, but we knew how critical it was so it really good for us to get all the points and also for all of the boys to contribute,” he said.
“We had to do it without Lewis (Blackbird) and that was hard because he’s been going so well for us, and it’s particularly tough for us to have to go into a busy period of away matches without him because he’s been so good and has been scoring a lot as a guest away from here.
“That’s the way it goes though and hopefully we’re on the case to sort out those guest bookings because it’s going to be important.”
