ROBINS boss Alun Rossiter is certain that straight-line speed will be the key to his side picking up points at Beaumont Park tonight.
Swindon, who currently find themselves fourth in the Elite League, make the trip to the Leicester Lions this evening as they look to maintain their grip on the final play-off place after moving back up the table with Thursday’s win over Wolverhampton Wolves.
The Robins have already triumphed at Leicester this season, pulling off a narrow 47-45 victory in June without star duo Peter Kildemand and Troy Batchelor, and Rossiter reckons that his team need to make the gate as often as possible if they want to enjoy another successful evening in the East Midlands.
“We need some points (tonight). If we can go and win there and we win at home on Monday (against play-off rivals Conventry Bees), I’m pretty sure that we’ll be nearly enough there,” said the Swindon team manager.
“We won there last time but I certainly think it’s going to be a lot harder this time.
“They’ve got a strong side out. They’ve got Doyley (Jason Doyle), Mads (Korneliussen), Danny King, Simon Stead and they’ve got Nicolai Klindt, so it’s not going to be easy.
“It’s a bit of a gater’s track. If you make the gate, then we’ve got a good chance, so we’ve got to make sure we get out at the start. If we make starts, we’ll win – simple as that.”
The Robins include Mildenhall Fen Tigers’ Brendan Johnson in their line-up as a replacement for Steve Worrall, who has been called up to feature for the Edinburgh Monarchs.
Rossiter added: “Steve’s riding for his parent club. We’ve got in Brendan Johnson and that just shows how the fast-track system works, bearing in mind Brendan’s 28th and Steve is ranked number five.”
