ROBINS' skipper Leigh Adams' saw his dreams of a magnificent Elite League Best Pairs hat-trick dashed at Blunsdon last night and admitted: "When it's not your year, it's not your year."' Swindon's No 1 swept aside all-comers at a packed Abbey Stadium, but he and teammate Seba Ulamek were forced to settle for runners-up spot as Belle Vue Aces, led by world championship leader Jason Crump, gained revenge for their defeat in last year's event.
Crump and partner Simon Stead gained a crucial 5-4 Grand Final triumph to end Robins' dominance of the Sky Sports-televised event and cap a memorable weekend for Crump after his British Grand Prix triumph on Saturday.
Unbeatable Adams had lifted the title with both Charlie Gjedde and Lee Richardson in 2004 and 2005 and won all six of his races.
But Ulamek's blank score in the final allowed Crump (three points) and Stead (two) to surpass Adams' four-point win and seize the crown.
Adams admitted: "We won the final, but second and third was better on this occasion.
"We've won it for the last two years and it's a pretty good job to get to the final again but we're disappointed.
"We did everything we could but got pipped at the post. When it's not your year, it's not your year."
