ALUN Rossiter insists he has ‘no regrets’ over quitting Swindon during the winter, despite a miserable start to the 2010 Elite League season with new employers Coventry.
Boss Rossiter has only managed one win with the West Midlands side since swapping Blunsdon for Brandon in December, and returns to the Abbey Stadium tonight desperate to ignite his side’s ailing campaign in front of the Sky Sports cameras.
When asked if he regretted making the switch in the winter, Rossiter said: “No, not really, you make your decision and you have to stick by it.
“If I had been winning I wouldn’t probably have been asked this question but you have got to make yourself strong, dig deep and you will come through.
“When you’ve worked in your home town for six years you get broad shoulders so I don’t feel I’m under pressure.
“I’ve certainly got no regrets, I had a great time (at Swindon) but the move was right and the time was right.”
Nevertheless, Rossiter, who took in the Swedish Grand Prix with Robins co-owner Gary Patchett at the weekend, acknowledges the seriousness of the problems on his hands at Coventry and the difficulty of overcoming them.
“Unfortunately the team we’ve got this year is good enough but they are not performing, it’s as simple as that,” he said.
“The worst thing about it is once you get in this rut, it’s very, very difficult to get out of it.
“It gets longer and longer and harder and harder, and the harder you try, the worse it gets.
“It’ll come right, we’ve just got to keep plugging away and working hard.”
Meanwhile, Robins boss Ronnie Russell heads into tonight’s meeting in better mood, on the back of his team’s thumping 54-39 win over Peterborough on Thursday.
Unsurprisingly, Russell will stick with the same septet that so superbly dismantled the challenge of the much-fancied Panthers.
“I was very pleased with them the other night and I want them to carry on in that vein,” said the manager.
“I think it was the best performance of the season and I was spoilt for choice in heat 15.”
Meanwhile, the first issue in a new series of magazines entitled ‘The Pocket Size History of Current Speedway Tracks’ has been released, focusing on Blunsdon.
