SWINDON’S Justin Sedgmen will contest the world under 21 semi-final after edging through his third round qualifier at a rain-hit Gorican on Sunday.

The teenager notched up eight points from four rides to ensure his progress at the soaking Croatian track, with the action being abandoned after a post 16th heat run-off.

Joining the Aussie in the next round were event winner and former Robin Jurica Pavlic, current world under 21 champion Darcy Ward, Maciej Janowski, Matej Kus and Andrey Kudryashov.

Sedgmen led from the front in his opener but had to be content with second next, as Ward passed both Dino Kovacic and the Swindon youngster following a slow start.

A point took the 18-year-old to six overall and then a second-placed finish behind Eastbourne’s Dawid Lampart was sufficient to take him through.

Result: Jurica Pavlic 12, Darcy Ward 11, Maciej Janowski 9, Matej Kus 9, Justin Sedgman 8, Andrey Kudryashov 7, Dawid Lampart 7, Kyle Newman 7, Aleksander Conda 6, Dino Kovacic 6, Kamil Fleger 5, Renato Cvetko 3, Gino Manzares 2, Nejc Malesic 2, Pavel Pucko 2, Matic Ivacic 0.

Meanwhile, Simon Stead missed out on a place in the final at David Norris’ farewell meeting at Eastbourne on Saturday.

The 28-year-old scored eight points in five rides but it was not enough to make the showpiece race.

Peterborough’s Lewis Bridger saw off Scott Nicholls, Hans Andersen and Jason Doyle to win the meeting.

Swindon asset Richard Sweetman scored four points on the night.
