SWINDON have had a bit of a disappointing start to the season but I’ve got mixed feelings about the idea of team manager Ronnie Russell making changes.

On the one hand I think he has got to start looking somewhere else with a view to getting someone in who can support captain Leigh Adams.

Having said that, I don’t like seeing riders replaced so early because you’ve got to give them a fair crack of the whip at turning it round.

Morten Risager and Mads Korneliussen have taken the brunt of the criticism and what’s happened to the former I don’t know, since he was the one that did us proud at the end of last season.

You can slate individual riders but I think part of the problem is that there’s a few of them that like to ride around the outside of the track, and they are struggling because it’s got no dirt on it.

Ronnie’s smoothed it out and there’s no bumps. It just needs a couple of inches of dirt around the outside to give the riders something to bite on.

There’s been some good racing down at the Abbey Stadium this year but I can’t say I enjoyed the defeat to Coventry last week all that much.

Everyone thought it was going to be easy and they went and beat us.

We missed the banned Thomas H. Jonasson as he’s been scoring some good points, and if he had been there we would have won.

I said to Ronnie afterwards that the only thing he could do now was go to Coventry and win, otherwise he would be getting stick from their end for the rest of the year.

Looking ahead to tonight, the visit of league leaders Poole is going to be a toughy.

They have a strong team throughout and in Artur Mroczka they have got the best Pole in the Elite League.

He’s going to score a hatful at reserve, that’s for sure.

Going on last week’s meeting, I think all our riders have got to pull their fingers out if we’re going to get any points.
