RONNIE Russell has tipped Grzegorz Zengota to improve his form away from the Abbey Stadium as the Pole looks to take his debut British season to the next level.
Zengota has shone at Blunsdon so far this campaign with a number of eye-catching displays, but has found the going much tougher away from home.
Meetings at Eastbourne, Poole, Lakeside and Belle Vue have seen the 21-year-old pick up just five points from 15 rides, but ahead of tonight’s clash at Coventry, Russell has stated his belief that Brandon will provide Zengota with the perfect arena to perform.
“It’s a track that suits him, there’s lots of shale against the fence and it’s very slick on the inside line,” said Russell.
“That’s very typical of Polish tracks and it might well play into his hands.
“In the first meeting of the season at Brandonapolis he did ride well, and he stayed for a long time at the meeting finish, just looking at the track.
“He nodded his head to me and said ‘I’ll do well here next time’. Let’s hope that’s the case.”
Zengota slots in at number four tonight but the biggest concern for Russell is one of his two reserve berths, as Cory Gathercole dislocated his shoulder riding for Somerset at Berwick on Saturday night.
Being a Coventry asset, Jordan Frampton would be the logical replacement for the Aussie but he is unavailable as he is riding for Rye House against Workington in the Premier League. Justin Sedgmen is unavailable due to riding in Croatia in the World Under 21 qualifiers.
At the time of writing, Russell was making a series of phone calls as he looked to find a guest to fill the reserve position.
“There’s so many things you look to try and do but find yourself stymied in all sorts of ways,” he said.
“It’s tough because it’s a Bank Holiday and generally lots more clubs run on Bank Holidays.”
Coventry stunned Swindon in front of the Sky Sports cameras at Blunsdon three weeks ago, but Russell believes his side can get revenge in tonight’s televised encounter.
“I see no reason why we can’t go there and do a good job, but they have got to ride as well as they did Thursday night,” he said.
Lewis Bridger is expected to ride for Coventry at number four after being signed, at least temporarily, following the culmination of his loan spell at Peterborough.
