ROBIN Aspegren doesn’t have too many aims for the upcoming Elite League season, with the young Swede just pleased to have a club at all.
Aspegren was due to ride for both Swindon and Newport in 2012, only for the Premier League side to pull out of the competition due to financial issues.
“My plan was to double up over here but when Newport resigned I had no (Premier League) team after that, so I’m very please to get a team place here,” he said.
“If I had known in November then it wouldn’t have been a problem because I could have found another club, but one month before the start of the season it’s hard to do that.
“I’m lucky because I had a team place at Swindon.”
The 23-year-old last week signed for Somerset on a short-term basis as cover for Jason Doyle, but with the Aussie’s visa issues now resolved, Aspegren faces an uncertain future at Premier League level.
Nonetheless, he is focused on keeping his spot at Swindon, even if he is unsure how long he will remain at the Abbey Stadium.
“I’ve been riding in the Elite League in Sweden (Elitserien) and I think that’s even harder, so I know what I have to do to get a team place,” he said.
“I will do my best and see what happens.
“I’ve been training hard during the winter and I’m really looking forward to the season.”
Aspegren has ridden for Newport for two years in the Premier League, last year returning from a broken foot after just two weeks out.
