AUSSIE charger Jason Doyle says Swindon should target victory at ‘top-heavy’ Poole as they aim to continue their excellent start to the Elite League season.
The Blunsdon side have so far clocked up two wins over Birmingham and triumphs against King’s Lynn and Coventry, but will face a stern test of their mettle at Wimborne Road tonight.
Doyle, who won the Elite League with the Pirates last year, believes that nullifying the threat of Chris Holder and Darcy Ward will be key in any triumph against his former employers.
“They have got two great riders in Chris and Darcy and if we get 3-3s with them or even beat them now and again then we have a good chance, because the rest of the team isn’t as strong,” said Doyle.
“You can’t build a team on two top riders. We’ve got a team from one to seven that can score points and if we can go to Poole and score all the way through, we’ll be on top in the end, “Poole’s a good team from one to seven but they are going to be top-heavy this year and hopefully we can go away and absolutely annihilate them.
“I’m excited, I just want to go there and show that Swindon’s got a great team and hopefully we can pull off a win.”
Doyle recorded his best performance in Swindon kevlars so far with 7+1 haul in the convincing 54-39 victory over Coventry on Thursday.
He added: “Every meeting I’m getting better and if I can keep doing that and start getting some double figures, I’ll be happy.”
Meanwhile, Swindon boss Alun Rossiter echoed Doyle’s sentiments ahead of this evening’s clash, revealing that he and his team will not be content to lose narrowly.
“Normally you are looking to go down to Poole and get a point, but we’re going down there to win, it’s as simple as that, and I’m quite confident we can do the job,” said Rossiter.
“We know what we’re going to get from Darcy and Chris, they are going to be hard to beat, so we’ve got to we punish the bottom end and make sure we get no last places.”
Swindon’s line-up will be unchanged for this evening with Rossiter seeing no reason to tinker with a winning side.
As well as Doyle, number one Troy Batchelor and in-form skipper Hans Andersen will take on their former team.
