TRUST STFC board member Alex Pollock pens the group’s latest column on a whirlwind fortnight at the County Ground and reflects on the promotion of ‘one of their own’ to the board at Swindon Town Football Club.
Two weeks is a long time in the world of STFC, and so much has happened since our last column. But the most important headline: we have our club back!
Fans will need no reminder of changes at the top, and new additions throughout the footballing side of the club. But this feels like the ideal opportunity to once again congratulate Rob Angus on becoming the club’s new CEO.
Having been our vice chair for nearly five years, we know there’s no better appointment for the job. We wish Rob all the best, and are looking forward to working closely with him and his management team going forward.
We’ve been delighted to support the club since Clem’s arrival in any way we possibly can. Members of our board have worked with the club’s commercial team in discussing new sponsors, we worked swiftly with the Official Supporters Club to galvanise voluntary support with ground maintenance, and we’ve communicated feedback on a range of topics including season-ticket refunds and merchandise.
Season tickets for 21-22 are now available to buy, and the ‘Race to 6K’ is on. We love the ambition shown, and with fans finally coming back to the County Ground after 18 months, we hope as many as possible will show their loyalty and get fully behind this new era.
The Trust board will be meeting this week to discuss our agenda for the season ahead, and once we have more details on our core aims and objectives, we’ll be delighted to share these with our members and the wider fanbase.
Projects such as the 50-50 County Ground purchase are very much still on the table, and we want to work hard this season on some immediate stadium quick wins too, as well as outreach with community groups, schools, and youth football in the area.
If you have any thoughts for improvements in and around the club, please let us know. And encourage your friends and family to join the Trust as it helps us to increase our influence and make a difference. They can sign up to either a free or paid membership via www.redarmyfund.co.uk.
But in the meantime: keep smiling, and we hope to see many of you on Saturday for the final pre-season friendly before the start of the season! COYR!
