ENGLAND were crowned Women’s European Champions on Sunday following a 2-1 victory over Germany in extra-time.
Over 87,000 fans watched a thrilling game at Wembley Stadium in which Ella Toone scored a stunning opener for Sarina Wiegman’s Lionesses before Lina Magull touched home late on in normal time for the Germans.
But it was Chloe Kelly who turned out to be the hero, poking home from close range during the second half of extra-time to bag her first international goal and her country’s first major football title since 1966.
With England inspired by the heroics of its women’s team, more female players than ever are expected to go out and join their local club.
