HAVING unwisely decided at extremely short notice to celebrate Magna Carta at Salisbury which did not even exist in 1215, Wiltshire Council are now desperately seeking volunteers from elsewhere in the county to come and take part!

So desperate are they that some groups granted funds by Wiltshire Council Area Boards have found strings attached to such funds requiring them to take part in this event.

Surely even Wiltshire Council knew the 800th Anniversary of Magna Carta was going to be celebrated in June THIS year, so why this shambolic last minute scramble?

Money is suddenly being found despite the cuts in funding to charities and major services.

This hasty scramble is on a par with the choice of venue.

Salisbury Cathedral was built by William Longespee, one of King John’s cronies, given perks and privileges by King John. He only joined the rebels when it looked as if John was going to lose.

There are far better choices within Wiltshire.

Trowbridge for a start!

Much is made of Salisbury’s Magna Carta, but thus far the Magna Carta Project, based in the University of East Anglia, have found around a hundred copies of Magna Carta from the 13th century!
