THE two main things that block drains are cooking fat and wet wipes. Wet wipes are a marvellous invention and are useful in all sorts of different situations, but wet wipes must go into the wheelie bin and not down the toilet.
Cooking fat should also go into the wheelie bin when it is cool enough to be handled safely. If cooking fat is washed down the sink it goes very thick and sets like concrete.
The worst situation is when there is a mixture of both cooking fat and wet wipes.
This mixture is so hard to clear that sometimes a sewer pipe has to be replaced at great expense.
To avoid problems for both your neighbours and yourself, please put wet wipes and cooking fat in the wheelie bin and not down the toilet.
