Swindon has been revealed to be one of the cheapest places in the UK when it comes to living space.
The new study ranks Swindon as sixth with residents spending 7.26 per cent of their annual salary per square metre for a town centre apartment.
Residents make £28,457 annually on average, with the average house price in Swindon costing £2,067 per square metre.
This is relatively affordable compared to those in London, who are spending a third of their salary per square metre, according to the study.
We wanted to know if our readers were surprised by this new information so we asked the question on our Facebook page.
We have collected some of the best answers we received.
Richard Clark said: "Not surprising at all, other towns have something to offer, such as good employment, decent hospitals, great shopping centres, and excellent leisure facilities,
"But what does Swindon have? Housing, housing and more housing, thanks to many years of mismanagement, neglect and greed."
Jane Parsons-Hann said: "Price is dictated by demand, there's no demand. Literally, if people can afford to buy elsewhere, they're choosing to.
"What does that tell you about Swindon?
"I live here by the way, it's actually OK, but a lot of people see the state of the town centre and judge the rest of the town on it.
"Additionally we've lost a lot of major employers, one in particular Honda, who paid above average wages.
"There are less high paying jobs, less going on with the loss of venues such as the Oasis that occasionally hosted biggish acts (Jimmy Carr, the Killers).
"The loss of nightlife means people flock to other places such as Bristol or Bath.
"It all makes this a much less desirable place to live compared to other places nearby."
Paul Fallows said: "Good! Makes them affordable. We just need to abolish leasehold and make apartments a desirable first home and a genuine downsizing option."
Jason Royle said: "Not at all surprising when you consider how little the town centre has to offer."
Helen May-Peters said: "That’s because no one’s buying them as an investment as even now you’ll only get two-thirds of what they’d be worth elsewhere even in Swindon as anyone who has sold property in the town centre has found to their detriment in the last few years.
"It’s already an area of deprivation and a ghetto before they even build anymore."
Martin Coleman said: "The only reason I still live in Swindon is because I work here. Otherwise I'll be long gone."
Yoshi Otsuki said: "It's cheap comparatively to where! Should be comparing it to abandoned towns in Wales or such for an accurate comparison."
Richard Hart said: "Town centre apartments are cheap. No surprises there! The town centre [is] a dump.
"Been neglected for years now, no shops worth visiting."
Gary Parkinson said: "Considering Swindon's location, within travel distance to Bath, Bristol, Reading, London, that is surprising.
"I also see a lot of people are calling the town centre a dump, but it's much better than a lot of places I've visited and I've found that although definitely lacking in some things, there is still a lot on offer there.
"Times have changed, the glory days of Debenhams and McIlroys have gone and that doesn't automatically make what is there now awful."
