IN that excellent aerial photograph of Coate Water in Saturday's Advertiser it shows there is no danger in the plan for building adjacent to the country park.

The ploughed fields show where this will occur and it will not interfere with the enjoyment of the park. As for the interference with wildlife around the lakes, it's already here and humanoid. Vandals will ruin anything, as was seen by the vandalism of the "hides." In the two years I held keys they were broken into repeatedly.

I gave up in disgust. It will never be a bird sanctuary in anything other than name.

As for rarities, I've seen two in 40 years in Swindon, and they were not bitterns but an Egyptian goose and a ruddy duck.

Never at any time have I seen 20 nests, I don't think the island where herons nest would hold 20 nests.

Coate may be a glorified duck pond but it has given a lot of fishermen pleasure and it will continue to do so long after Chiseldon becomes a suburb of Swindon City.
