ONE hundred reasons to live in Swindon should not be an insurmountable number for readers to find.
For a start I would recommend the pedestrianised shopping centre, our new hospital and the promised modern library.
Can readers suggest key additions to these three? I feel sure that residents would rather be 100 per cent behind their town rather than have it limp into the new century.
Swindon Borough Council has started this process by setting out an impressive list of 50 promises to the population. The list is ambitious and the council expects us to hold them to account. "Swindon 2010" draws near and decisions made now will profoundly affect future generations. Visions regarding housing and forestry will leave a legacy for the next 100 years.
Many of us will not see the fruits of the next 50 to 100 years but we can all be involved in its creation. I would love to hear what our descendants think when they look back, hopefully with pride, at the end of the century.
