I CAN understand why Coun Bluh is embarrassed by his council's poor performance on recycling (A big dust-up over rubbish). It lets down the people of Swindon and undermines his party leader's claims that the Tories are going green.
But his embarrassment is no excuse for giving your readers inaccurate information. If he had bothered to read what I said in the House of Commons, he will see I made no mention of the figures he quotes. I simply pointed out that Swindon Borough Council has only 0.24 recycling points per 1,000 of population, compared with the national average of 0.41.
These figures came from an official answer to a question I asked which DEFRA issued on April 25. If they are wrong, councillors Bluh and Foley should give the correct information and its source and explain why they have not corrected the official figures.
