I NOTE that Swindon South MP, Anne Snelgrove recently voted in the House of Commons to increase the maximum punishment for a soldier going Absent Without Leave from two years to life imprisonment.
The tariff has been raised because of a threefold increase in soldiers going AWOL since the occupation of Iraq started.
Most go AWOL because they don't know how else to get out of a war their conscience tells them is wrong.
It is shocking that they could now face life imprisonment a longer term than child murderers get. These young men go AWOL because they have a conscience something Anne Snelgrove is clearly lacking.
