SUPPORTERS of the Gambling Act 2006 say new super casinos will bring millions of pounds and thousands of jobs into deprived areas.
Is this really the best that can be offered in Swindon?
In reply to my letter of May 15 I think a casino would be one good reason to avoid Swindon like the plague.
There are about 370,000 problem gamblers in the UK. Thanks to the government this tip of the gambling iceberg will have to self-destruct elsewhere (SA, CasiNo for town, May 25).
Imagine what it would be like working in a place where most people are addicted to losing money in the vain hope of becoming rich. What sort of value system bases economic revival upon the ethos of greed?
I question why one would value Swindon and am concerned what Swindon stands for. There's precious little understanding, compassion, happiness and love in a casino.
