WILL Bath University really bring great wealth for the town centre? Is the future of Swindon really gleaming bright? N D Edwards seems to think so (SA, May 26).
So many controversial developments have been shoved on to the residents of Swindon purely under speculative greed.
Before advising Swindonians of speculative gain it would surely be wise to examine the facts first. For a start, the university is not proposed to be built near the hospital, but next to the protected area of Coate nature reserve.
This area is treasured very highly by thousands of people who live both here and in other areas.
I can quite easily forgive N D Edwards for this oversight because the council have cunningly called it the Commonhead Development.
Additionally, a common sense view, surely regenerating the town centre should begin in the town centre.
For as long as a single office or commercial building remains empty why build even more on greenbelt land.
