THANKS for covering the wonderful efforts of London Marathon runner Beverly Skull (Big Success for Bev, May 11) to raise money for homelessness charity St Mungo's. Just to clarify, she's raised a fantastic £5,500, rather than the £50,000 mentioned in the article. This money will go a long way to supporting more than 1,500 homeless men and women who live in our hostels and housing projects, use our health services and who we help with skills, education and work services.
We are always looking to raise funds, especially at this time of high national unemployment when getting back on the job ladder can be particularly tough for those without a home or with physical or mental health support needs. If any of your readers want to follow Beverly's example - but maybe not the full 26 miles! - St Mungo's is organising a 5-mile sponsored walk around London on Sunday, June 20. This starts at 11am and will take in some of London's most iconic and historic sites including the Bank of England, St Paul's Cathedral, the Houses of Parliament and the Southbank. It's part of St Mungo's Action Week 2010 called Just the Job - supporting homeless people's journey back to work.
You can sign up for the walk at www.mungos.org. Or if you can't do the walk yourself why not sponsor St Mungo's resident Jamie and his dog to complete the distance http://www.mungos.org/walk. You can also show your support by shopping at the St Mungo's online gift shop - www.mungos.org/shop. Any donations, especially ones for £50,000, are very much appreciated!
