IT never ceases to amaze me how bigoted people can be about their own political views. In last weeks’s general election the people of Swindon voted overwhelmingly to kick out a tired old Labour government, who have spent the last 13 years turning a huge budget surplus into a deficit not seen in this country since the dark ages and all Ken Millin can do is blame it all on Maggie Thatcher.
One of the great things about this country is our democracy which gives us the freedom to choose a new government every few years. Yet there are millions of people like Ken all over the country who will support their party no matter what and never accept that maybe this time their team is not the best choice. I particularly like the way Ken doesn’t let facts get in the way of a good argument. He said that Labour closed the gap between rich and poor when according to a Labour party report published this year* under their stewardship the gap between rich and poor widened to it’s highest level since the second world war. All I can say is thank god for democracy.
