COALITION government. Volcanic ash clouds. Chelsea’s momentous double. England’s T20 world cricket champions. Swindon Town Wembley-bound. But none of these events should detract from the equally remarkable 17th Swindon Festival of Literature.
Thirteen glorious May days filled with high-profile guest speakers stimulating us in every imaginable way. We were spoilt for choice by performances, activities and audience participation galore.
It was pleasing to see four events at the new-ish £10 million Central Library. Long may this use continue. The Reading Room is an excellent venue for evening meetings when the main library has closed.
Swindon’s first Think Slam was also a resounding success. Esteemed speaker A C Grayling was on fine form before presenting the trophy/bubbly to esteemed winner John Little. We never imagined that John was a comedian.
Long live Lord Holland of Lower Shaw Farm!
