WHILE out shopping in Regent Street yesterday I passed what Swindon council would call ‘the new water feature’.

A monstrosity feature I would prefer to call it. As I stood in sheer disbelief, staring at these pieces of tin (which would look more at home on a building site) I witnessed a large Alsatian dog looking at it as well.

Did the dog drink from it on a hot day? No, he preferred to relieve himself against it, then calmly walked away!

Has Swindon council gone completely mad at this total waste of £240,000?

Do we not elect our councillors at local elections? Do we not pay council tax every year?

So just why are Swindon citizens being ignored like this? Do residents’ views no longer count, once elected?

Age Concern Swindon has had to finally close its doors through lack of funds - an organisation that has helped thousands of our elderly residents in Swindon and can no longer do so. Don’t we need a dialysis machine for the GWH? Or even a gift of £240,000 to the Prospect Hospice. Either would eventually benefit all families in Swindon - a truly fitting lasting legacy.

If Swindon council has so much money to waste and wanted a lasting legacy for the new regeneration of Regent Street, could not suggestions or ideas have been sought from the residents of the town?

I, like most people appreciate art, but no one in their right mind, save the designer, sees anything remotely beautiful or artistic, in this 100 per cent waste of public funds.
