WHAT a horrid mess is Swindon town shopping centre!
There seems to be more helmeted workmen visible than shoppers themselves. Bottlenecks designed to herd confused shoppers through gauntlets of noise and dust. Are shoppers not welcome anymore?
Years ago the poet, John Betjeman, wrote a poem about Slough. It calls for RAF bombers to flatten the place. Tongue in cheek, perhaps, but he clearly felt he had a point to make.
Cannot our local mayor contact the commanding officer at RAF Lyneham and invite him to spare a few bombers to flatten Swindon town centre? It would not take too long. Nothing will arise out of its ashes, I fear. Certainly no steam, Swindon ran out of that years ago.
