LARRY Wright uses very unnecessary language objecting to Bishops in Parliament and an offensive red herring in denigrating their vestments.
I agree with him about the need for an assisted dying for the terminally ill act, but it was not only Anglican bishops who voted against this bill and it should be noted that many (elected) MPs also voted against the bill.
He is shooting at the wrong target. The real scandal is that there is an unelected house in the legislature. No Anglican Bishop, or Catholic Bishop, head Rabbi, fertility expert, computer entrepreneur millionaire donator or anyone else should be appointed to the House of Lords. The lords should be elected, there could be no objection to any of the above being in the Lords if they were elected, even Mr Wright or me or even someone from the UKIP, so long as they were elected. Democracy that is the real issue not people’s religion.
How about this for an idea. Do away with the Lords altoghether and every bill put forward by the Commons could be voted for by the electorate, on line, and would fall if it did not get a majority. Let the people be the second house.
