IN your article “settling in as new MPs” (May 21 2010) I wondered, how long will their enthusiasm last come late sittings in the winter months and the revolts when spending cuts, tax rises, unemployment and inflation bites.

I see Robert Buckland’s committee preferences are for law and order and education. Justin Tomlinson plumped for local government, leisure, culture and business, the same as he was doing as a Swindon councillor.

Robert voted against ministers being allowed on the 1922 Committee Justin was for, (creep) that’s one black mark Robert, remember you have a very vindictive leader, a control freak he doesn’t like dissent.

He used the expenses scandal to sack MPs who didn’t vote for him in the parliamentary election for a new leader in 2005, remember that election he got 45.5 per cent of the parliamentary vote one could hardly call him popular!

Before 1997 the Tories kept backbenchers quiet by using the honours awards. Knighthoods were used as bribes to quell any revolt. Tony Blair stopped all that when he became Prime Minister, I wonder if Cameron will bring it back? The Lib/Dems would agree they have proved themselves to be status seekers a few “Sirs” wouldn’t go amiss.
