I HAVE just visited Swindon railway station for train tickets to Wembley, I was informed that they are not offering any discounted tickets this weekend from Swindon railway station although there are five of us travelling and normally you can get a discounted ticket for four of you.
I was informed at the station that I could visit any other station and buy these discounted tickets but at Swindon railway station I could not.
I asked how much the normal priced tickets would be and was told for five to travel approx £250 in underground to zone 4.
I asked how much the same journey would be but to travel from Chippenham, this would be approx £140 for the five of us. Well that is it sorted I said, I was then told that with a ticket from Chippenham I would not be able to board the train at Swindon.
Ok I then asked how much the journey would be if I started at Swindon and went to Reading and then from Reading to Paddington, and include my underground to zone 4, the price for this is £118.20.(sorted) I note that First Great Western is going to have an inquiry into the ticket price situation, my question is when will this happen, next week I assume, so all of the people that have had to pay over the odds, from our locally operated train company will not be entitled to any refund, and of course First Great Western will say they will make sure this never happens again. Until the next time.
