MAY I through the columns of the letters section of your paper ask why it is that even when new gates are fitted to bridleways on the down land areas between Rustley Park and Ashdown House immediately landowners tie them up with string and chains low down so that riders have to dismount to undo them which in my case (in need of knee replacements) is very difficult, to say nothing of the mud in the gateways in winter.

This smacks of a deliberate attempt to deter people from enjoying their legal right. Also they should in my opinion be compelled to reinstate the surfaces that they spoil with their heavy machinery.
